DeptofTransportationHighway & Construction Laborer – ($4,000 HiringIncentive)Job SummaryThis role ensures a safe and efficient transportation system by performing highway and road maintenance tasks, including the operation of motorized vehicles, pavement care, landscape preservation, roadside restoration, and signing/striping. Positions will be assigned based on experience and qualifications listed below.Job DutiesHighway Operations WorkerEntry‑level duties: operate motorized vehicles and equipment, perform pavement and landscape maintenance, roadside shoulder restoration, sign/striping, equipment and material delivery.Maintain environmental compliance and vehicle/equipment care.Highway Operations Tech1Apprentice level: perform all duties of the worker level and additional advanced tasks.Responsibilities include vehicle and equipment operation, pavement and landscape maintenance, roadside shoulder restoration, sign/striping, delivery, and environmental compliance.Highway Operations Tech2Intermediate level: execute a broad scope of operational duties and lead responsibilities.Tasks include scheduling, assigning, and overseeing subordinates, inspecting work, training staff, and all previously listed duties.Highway Operations Tech3Full‑journey level: supervise and perform high‑level highway operations.Leadership duties include scheduling, assignment, oversight, inspection, training, and guiding staff.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)Highway Operations Worker: 6months of roadway/highway experience; ability to operate motorized vehicles and heavy‑equipment, perform signing/striping, pavement and landscape maintenance.Highway Operations Tech1: 1year of comparable experience.Highway Operations Tech2: 2years of comparable experience.Highway Operations Tech3: 3years of comparable experience.Selective PreferencePreference for candidates with 6months of experience in related fields.Pre‑Employment RequirementsHighway Operations Worker: must obtain an Arizona CDL (Class “A”) within 90days of hire and hold a commercial driver's license within 6months.Highway Operations Tech1–3: must possess an Arizona Class “A” CDL for manual or automatic transmission with a (N) tanker endorsement before the start date; additional endorsements may be required.All positions: registration with the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse is required.Positions require 24‑hour emergency responsiveness; must return to the maintenance yard within 30minutes.Candidates may encounter extreme cold/heat, rugged terrain, long periods away from base, and high‑speed traffic.All roles require a physical capability to lift/carry or push/pull 50lbs.Some duties may require licensing to dispense herbicides/pesticides.All PositionsAll newly hired state employees must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E‑Verify).BenefitsSick leaveVacation with 10 paid holidays per yearHealth and dental insuranceRetirement planLife insurance and long‑term disability insuranceOptional benefits: short‑term disability, deferred compensation, supplemental life insuranceFor a complete list of benefits provided by the State of Arizona, please visit our benefits page.Employee Referral ProgramThis position is eligible for an employee referral incentive if all criteria are met.RetirementMandatory participation in the Arizona Retirement System (ASRS) is required.Contact UsFor questions about this career opportunity, contact ADOT Human Resources Recruitment via email at srecruitment@azdot.gov or by phone at (602)712‑7279.EEO StatementThe State of Arizona is an Equal Opportunity/Reasonable Accommodation Employer.
