Lead the construction operations for a critical power specialty contractor, managing project execution, financial outcomes, team leadership, and process development. Own project performance, profitability, and day‑to‑day construction leadership.
Responsibilities
Construction Operations Leadership
Own the performance of all active and backlog construction projects
Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to scope
Lead weekly project reviews and proactively identify and resolve risks
Serve as the primary escalation point for complex project issues
Own construction gross margin and overall project profitability
Review job cost reports, forecasts, and change orders across all projects
Ensure strong financial discipline and protect margin on every job
Identify financial trends and implement corrective action when needed
Directly manage the Project Manager and Project Coordinator
Provide coaching, structure, and accountability to the team
Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance management
Build bench strength and develop future leaders within construction
Resource Planning & Scheduling
Oversee project scheduling and resource allocation across all projects
Coordinate internal labor (including hybrid field technicians) and subcontractors
Resolve scheduling conflicts across multiple projects and between service and construction
Support the integration and coordination of electrical self‑perform work
Process & Systems Development
Build and improve construction processes, including sales‑to‑operations handoff, project kickoff, scheduling, backlog tracking, and closeout
Establish consistency and structure across all phases of construction
Develop the department playbook — not just follow existing ones
Oversee equipment procurement and lead time tracking across all backlog projects
Ensure alignment between equipment delivery schedules and project timelines
Maintain clear visibility into backlog health and project activation readiness
Customer Experience
Support Project Managers on key accounts and complex project situations
Ensure a high standard of professionalism and communication with customers
Step in directly when needed to protect relationships and project outcomes
Qualifications
Experience
7+ years in MEP or parallel construction, electrical contracting, or specialty equipment installation leadership
Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously at a department level
Prior experience leading and developing project teams (not just running projects)
Experience with electrical systems, generators, UPS systems, HVAC, or critical power infrastructure highly preferred
Leadership
Ability to lead, coach, and hold team members accountable
Comfortable owning outcomes and making decisions independently
Experience building or improving construction department processes and structure
Strong understanding of job costing, budgeting, and gross margin management
Experience with change order identification, documentation, and negotiation
Ability to forecast and manage project financials from start to closeout
Communication
Clear, direct communicator with internal teams and external customers
Comfortable managing conflict, resolving escalations, and delivering difficult newsProfessional written and verbal communication skills
