Compensation: $18.00 $26.00 per hour, DOE

As a Maintenance Technician at the Academies of Math and Science, you'll play a key role in keeping our learning environment safe, functional, and welcoming for students, staff, and families. AMS is a network serving diverse and low-income communities through high-performance academics, STEM programs, and whole-child support.

Role Summary

The Maintenance Technician ensures that the school building, grounds, and equipment are properly maintained and operational. This position performs a variety of custodial, repair, and preventative maintenance duties including plumbing, landscaping, carpentry, general repairs, and responding to facility-related needs throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and emergency building maintenance across campus, including plumbing, painting, HVAC filters, minor electrical work, and general repairs
  • Maintain cafeteria equipment, restrooms, classrooms, hallways, and common areas in safe working condition
  • Track, maintain, and reorder custodial and maintenance supplies as needed
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and repairs scheduled
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures, chemical handling regulations, and OSHA requirements
  • Maintain campus security of facilities, equipment, and tools
  • Provide timely communication and professional support to school leadership
  • Assist with larger campus projects and coordinate external vendors or contractors when required

Requirements

  • 3+ years of maintenance, facilities, or custodial repair experience required
  • Must be able to pass a background check and obtain/maintain an IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair general building systems and equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., move equipment, and work indoors/outdoors as needed
  • Strong communication, time-management, and problem-solving skills
