The expected ENTRY pay range for this position based on experience and equity within the Judicial Branch is $20.28 to $21.00.
This position is non-exempt under the FLSA.

About the Position
The Detention Food Service Worker prepares food items based on standardized recipes and is responsible for kitchen sanitation to include pot washing, dishwashing, general cleaning duties, and storing food and non-food supplies. This position performs work within a secured detention facility.

Position Qualifications

Experience:
Two years' general experience in food preparation and service in a restaurant or food service environment
OR
Combined Education and Experience Qualifications:
Culinary education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement on a year-for-year basis
Other Requirements:
- Must possess or obtain an Arizona Food Handler's Card or an ANSI- accredited food employee training course certification certificate or any necessary certifications for food safety and handling prior to hire.
- Positions in Detention are subject to Tuberculosis (TB) testing. All offers of employment are dependent on a negative TB result prior to start date.

- Meal planning and preparation
- Portion control and diet preparation
- Cleaning and sanitation of equipment and food service facilities

Essential Job Tasks (This is not an all-inclusive list of all job duties that may be required; employees will be required to perform other related duties as assigned.)
- Prepare and serve all items as written in established recipes and special diet orders
- Plan food production to coordinate with meal service hours, so that excellence, quality, temperature, and appearance of food are preserved
- Determine amount and type of food and supplies required for daily menus and sees that supplies are obtained from storage areas in adequate time for meal production
- Safely operate various kitchen equipment including oven, steamer, slicer, and mixers
- Maintain workstation in a safe and sanitary condition
- Assist in setting up and serving food, preparing food for service areas
- Prepare for dish washing, pot and pan washing, and utensil washing
- Clean and sanitize production equipment, work surfaces and kitchen according to cleaning schedules and procedures
- Empty trash containers and mop floors
- Maintain inventory and equipment control and monitor food waste
Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak clearly and hear; read, see details of objects that are less than a few feet away; stand for long periods of time; walk, use hands to grip or grasp; reach with hands and arms; bend or twist; push, pull, lift and carry up to 25 pounds; work indoors with varying temperatures (as low as 38° to over 90°); exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes and odors; work with hazardous and hot equipment (stove, oven); and work in a secured detention facility with interaction with detained youth. Typically, successful candidates are hired at a salary rate up to the midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.

The Judicial Branch of Arizona in Maricopa County participates in the State Retirement systems ASRS or PSPRS. As such, mandatory membership for all full-time employees includes payroll deducted contributions consistent with each retirement system's requirements. The current contribution rate for ASRS is 12.27% and the current contribution rate for PSPRS is 5.84% and up for the defined contribution plan and 8.82% for the defined benefit plan.
