Summary
The full pay range for the position is $17.87 to $26.80 per hour with an anticipated starting rate between entry ($17.87) and midpoint ($22.33) of the range. It's essential to note that the actual hourly rate offered will be determined based on several factors, including skills, qualifications, experience, education, certifications, training and internal equity considerations.
Purpose of Role:
Ensure clean, sanitized trains that support public safety and hygiene, as well as perform general shop janitorial and/or industrial cleaning.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Education and/or Experience
- High School Diploma or GED and six (6) months experience in:
- Performing janitorial and/or industrial cleaning duties
- or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licensing/Certification Requirements: None required.

- Wash, rinse, and clean the exterior of rail vehicles using approved cleaning agents and equipment.
- Clean, sanitize, and inspect interior surfaces, including high-contact areas; remove gum and graffiti; and sweep and mop floors.
- Open and inspect light panels to verify proper operation and identify missing or damaged components, such as screws.
- Identify and report needed repairs, safety concerns, or faulty equipment to a supervisor.
- Perform general shop and work-area housekeeping to maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Required Knowledge & Skills: Knowledge of: - Basic understanding of cleaning procedures.
- Fundamental sanitization practices to maintain public health.
- Essential understanding of safe chemical handling.
- Basic understanding of graffiti and gum removal techniques.
- Introductory knowledge of light fixture inspection requirements.
- Fundamental theory of cleaning high-contact public surfaces.
- Essential processes for identifying equipment needing repair.
- Using a computer and related software.
Skill in: - Washing train exteriors thoroughly.
- Wiping and sanitizing interior surfaces.
- Sweeping and mopping train floors.
- Removing gum and graffiti from surfaces.
- Inspecting light panels and fixtures.
- Reporting faulty equipment accurately.
- Cleaning shop areas efficiently.
- Communication and interpersonal skills to exchange information and receive work direction.
Physical Demands / Work Environment Work is performed in combination of a shop environment, rail yard and vehicle setting with routine use of standard cleaning equipment. This role requires light physical exertion; exerting up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly or requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
This role typically requires sitting, handling, fine dexterity, visual acuity, hearing, speaking, walking, standing, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, kneeling, bending, climbing, reaching, twisting, crouching, balancing, crawling, noisy/distracting environment, time pressure, tedious or exacting work, changing of tasks, multi-tasking, emergency situation, irregular work schedule/overtime, noisy/distracting environment and working with others on a team.
This role also experiences daily exposure to mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, extreme temperatures, electrical hazards, noise and vibration, fire hazards, physical hazards and communicable diseases; weekly exposure to respiratory hazards; and seasonal exposure to wetness/humidity.
