Job Description Summary
Under general supervision, cares for and maintains spring training baseball facilities, right-of-ways, medians, and other public grounds and must also be flexible to work nights, weekends and holidays

Maintenance experience in Sports/Athletic fields would be highly desirable. Any current certifications or experience in a formal safety program would also be ideal. (Certifications could include: Georgia Sports Turf, Ohio State Sports Turf, Smartscape, AZ Pesticide License, U of A Desert Turf School)

Essential Functions
This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The following functions do not identify all duties performed by the incumbent. Other duties and responsibilities will be performed as assigned.

  • Maintains and repairs baseball fields including mound and home plate, skin work, bullpens, warning tracks and batting practice set-up and tear down.
  • Maintains the turf by mowing, edging, fertilizing, applying pesticide and weed control, irrigating, verti-cutting, aerating, sod work, and over-seeding.
  • Provides general clean-up of grounds and facilities including restrooms, dugouts, concourses, parking lots, irrigation pond and all open use areas.
  • Maintains outside landscape of turf, trees, shrubs, gravel, irrigation, walk ways and parking lots.
  • Assists with all non-baseball event set-up/break down and coordination.
  • Completes all computer-based trainings as they are assigned.
Requirements
  • Formal Education/Knowledge: Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines. Level of knowledge is equivalent to less than high school or equivalency.
  • Experience: No experience required.
  • Certifications and Other Requirements: Valid Driver's License
  • Reading: Work requires the ability to read irrigation manuals, training guides, standard operating procedures and MSDS manuals.
  • Math: Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Writing: This position requires the ability to complete work orders and general correspondence.
  • Managerial: Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others but may provide advice/direction to an employee with less experience/skill or tenure.
  • Policy/Decision Making: Moderate - The employee normally performs the duty assignment after receiving detailed instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results with little room for deviation. The immediate supervisor may, at times, provide close and constant review.
  • Technical Skills: Limited Application - Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization. Limited analysis and independent thinking is utilized.>
  • Interpersonal/Human Relations Skills: Moderate - Work requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of information. The purpose of interactions is primarily the sharing of information.

12 Month Objectives

  1. Identify and enroll in a certification program identified by Supervisor. (Georgia Sports Turf, Ohio State Sports Turf, Smartscape, AZ Pesticide License, U of A Desert Turf School)
  1. Familiarize yourself with operational SOP's and attend next round of trainings.
  1. Show proficiency with our 3 models of reel and rotary mowers (John Deere 7700, Toro 3100D, Walker Model T )
This will be evidenced by....
  1. Watching the operators and safety videos
  2. Completing the quiz at the end of the videos
  3. Completing a "field test" with these pieces of equipment with a supervisor
