General Summary:
As a Lead Underwriter, you will excel in risk evaluation and selection, ensuring profitable business within your assigned authority limits. You will closely collaborate with our sales teams, brokers, and internal partners.
Responsibilities:
Consult with sales and service partners to identify and provide optimal products and plan options for our customers.
Evaluate and select risks to ensure the profitable acquisition of new cases and successful retention of existing ones.
Conduct thorough risk assessments to meet business guidelines, target profits, and metrics. Analyze risk trends and make informed recommendations.
Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the Company's products, sales processes, and market influences.
Provide dependable, accurate, and timely service while nurturing relationships with internal and external partners.
Assist in training and mentoring junior underwriters to foster their technical development.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or relevant business experience.
Proven proficiency at the Underwriter level.
Thorough understanding of product provisions, plan designs, pricing, and contractual benefits.
Strong technical expertise in risk selection.
Demonstrated awareness of top-line and bottom-line business objectives.
Solid understanding of the sales/distribution processes and market trends.
Excellent mentoring and coaching abilities.
Creative problem-solving skills.
Strong critical thinking and analytical reasoning capabilities.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

The base salary for this position ranges from $53,300.00 to $100,700.00, depending on skill, geographical location, and experience. Additionally, Unum offers a comprehensive benefits and rewards portfolio including healthcare, insurance benefits, performance-based incentives, PTO, and a 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching and additional contributions. All benefits are subject to individual Plan terms.
