Graffiti Buster and Materials Handler (Trades Helper) - Neighborhood Services Department

ABOUT THIS POSITION
The City of Phoenix Neighborhood Services Department (NSD) is dedicated to making Phoenix a community of desirable neighborhoods and helping residents access critical services and resources. To achieve these goals, NSD administers a number of programs that preserve, enhance, and engage communities across the city.
The Trades Helper positions are part of the NSD, Preservation Division. The Division has two Trades Helper roles: Graffiti Buster and Materials Handler.
Graffiti Busters work a 4/10 schedule with two crews to combat blight caused by graffiti. The removal of graffiti is completed by either painting over or utilizing a pressure washer and removal chemicals. Staff use a variety of tools to remove graffiti from all types of surfaces throughout the city. Responsibilities may also include general maintenance of small tools and engines; preparation of surfaces for painting; operating cellular devices and computers; color matching paint; mixing paint; participating in neighborhood clean ups and/or delivering supplies for clean ups.

Materials Handlers work a 5/8 schedule and assist with the Abandoned Shopping Cart Retrieval and Illegal Sign Programs. Staff in this role locate, retrieve, and transport abandoned shopping carts and illegal signs from a variety of locations. Staff assist with the enforcement of the Division's abandoned shopping cart ordinance by educating residents and businesses on compliance standards and reporting repeat violations for follow-up action. Responsibilities may also include graffiti removal and participating in neighborhood clean ups and/or delivering supplies for clean ups.
Currently the department is recruiting for both the Graffiti Buster and Materials Handler positions.
SALARY
Pay Range: $18.60 - $30.31 per hour.
Hiring Range: $18.60 - $28.86 per hour.

Internal Only: Please understand that this is pay grade 237. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance.
* Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.
* Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
* Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
* When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Two years of experience assisting a skilled trades person or performing manual work which involved the use of an acquired skill.
* Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
* Working conditions:
* Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds will be required.
* Requires working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.
* Working irregular hours, second or third shift, weekends, holidays and evenings may be required.
* Requires working for prolonged periods standing in one location, and/or walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.
* All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
* Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
* Experience with small engine and/or tool repair.
* Experience working with latex or flat paint products.
* Experience performing field operations, including working with the public.
* Experience collecting, moving, lifting, and transporting materials and objects.
* Experience with different hand tools to paint surfaces (e.g. rollers, brushes).
* Experience operating paint shakers, paint matching, and other paint related equipment.
* Experience working with a computer or web application on a cellular telephone.
* Experience operating equipment, paint machines, airless sprayers, or a pressure washer.
