ABOUT THIS POSITION
The City of Phoenix Human Services Department (HSD) enhances the health, wellness, and quality of life for Phoenix residents by providing a comprehensive array of services to help people meet emergency, short and long-term needs; and to help every individual reach their highest level of self-sufficiency. HSD offers a wide variety of programs for children, adults, and families at numerous locations throughout the city. There are three family services centers that provide emergency assistance and case management services to individuals and families in need.
This vacancy is in the Community and Senior Services Division in the Family Services Center structure. The Customer Service Clerk provides the public with explanations and interpretations of City ordinances, policies, and procedures, and assistance in completing a variety of City forms. Individuals in this classification have frequent contact with the public by phone, e-mail, public meetings/events, and through counter duties. Tact and persuasion are required in dealing with citizens who may be or become irate or distraught.
Currently, there is a Customer Service Clerk vacancy in the Community Services and Initiatives Division located at the Travis L. Williams Family Services Center.

SALARY
Pay Range: 16.88 - $26.18 per hour.
Hiring Range: $16.88 - $17.72 per hour.
Pay Range Explanation:
* Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.
* Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
Internal Only: Please understand that this is pay grade 331. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance.
* Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.
* Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
* Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
* When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* One year of experience in meeting the public and performing varied office and clerical tasks,
* Supplemented by courses in bookkeeping, and demonstrated typing skills.
* Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
* Experience entering data into computer.
* Experience with assisting difficult/irate customers in a customer service environment
* Experience providing quality customer service to the public by telephone, email, or in person.
* Experience operating multi-line telephone systems.
* Experience performing highly detailed data entry in a fast-pace environment.
* Experience providing admin support to staff.
* Spanish proficiency is highly desirable, but not required.
* Proficiency using Microsoft Excel.
* Proficiency using Microsoft Office.
