ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Planning and Development Department (PDD) is a city department of over 500 employees across five main Divisions: Business & Strategy, Planning, Historic Preservation, Plan Review, and Inspections. PDD guides the physical development of the city by preserving our historic sites, planning what can be built where, and ensuring safe construction of buildings and infrastructure. A host of advisory and governing bodies of residents as well as elected officials provide oversight as the city grows, and needs arise. The process is governed through development and enforcement of city codes and ordinances.
The Planning and Development Department is seeking customer focused Structural Inspector IIs* to join their Inspections team. Structural Inspector IIs performs complex construction inspections of commercial buildings ranging from multi-family residences to high-rise structures as well as other building types undergoing new construction or remodels from the ground up across all occupancy classifications.
This Structural Inspector II* assignment supports the Annual Facilities Program (AFP), focusing on commercial structural inspections and plan reviews. The incumbent must have experience and certifications in commercial inspections and plan review. AFP Structural Inspectors IIs* collaborate closely with assigned clients and design professionals to guide projects through plan review, permit issuance, and the inspection process. Success in this role requires a strong commitment to customer service and the ability to work effectively within a team of Inspectors, Engineering Technicians, and Supervisors.
This is an assignment position; applicants are required to possess all necessary certifications prior to the assignment pay being provided. The certifications required are ICC Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner, ICC Commercial Building Inspector, and ICC Building Plans Examiner.
IDEAL CANDIDATE

* Ability to manage high complex schedules, field changes, and conflicting priorities.
* Ability to read and understand plans and other related construction documents.
* Possess strong communication skills with the ability to communicate to construction personnel, professional designers, and customers in person, via email, and over the phone.
* Extensive commercial construction knowledge within construction trades and understanding of building codes.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
SALARY
Pay Range: $36.84 to $51.83 per hour.
Hiring Range: $36.84 to $47.01 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Two years of experience inspecting the construction of commercial and multi-story residential building projects to enforce Phoenix Construction Codes.
* Two years at the level of Structural Inspector I.
* To be eligible for the assignment, must possess the following three certifications at time of hire:
* ICC Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner (21)
* ICC Commercial Building Inspector (B2)
* ICC Building Plans Examiner (B3)
* Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted
* All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
* Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
* Two or more years of experience as an Inspector or Plan Reviewer of commercial, industrial, or high-rise construction.
* Two or more years of experience in code compliance for a jurisdiction responsible for code enforcement.
* Three or more years of experience as a skilled journey level tradesman or construction superintendent.
