Medtronic Tempe Campus (MTC), is looking for a Software Automation Engineer to work in the Operational Technology team to support Manufacturing Operations. An ideal candidate for this position will be a self-motivated individual with a thorough understanding of current manufacturing automation software, test data and analytics software development. The candidate must have strong problem solving and analytic skills in addition to excellent written and oral communication competencies.

This Software Engineer will design and develop custom equipment automation solutions as well as electronic data collection integrating with our Manufacturing Execution System (MES), Automated Equipment Controller, and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). The senior automation system engineer is expected to play an active role in working with Manufacturing Operations, Process and Test Engineering in user requirements gathering, design, build, and validation of new automated manufacturing solutions to improve production efficiency and quality.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in cross-functional teams including QA, Product/Process engineering and Operations for gathering requirements and defining project scope for wafer, test, and hybrid assembly automation solutions.
  • Work with new product development team to define wafer data requirements and collect data from Probe and Test equipment used to construct wafer maps
  • Work with process and equipment engineers to integrate new and/or existing manufacturing equipment with the MES system using MTC's standard automation framework
  • Perform comprehensive software validation by creating system test plan and test cases; execute test cases and document test results to support system validation activities.
  • Analyze all Product and Compliance requirements and work with system software developers to ensure system design/functions meet all requirements
  • Analyze production issues related to automation equipment and software to provide root cause solutions.
  • Provide technical support for 24x7 Manufacturing Operations when needed
  • Provide Operational Innovation by expanding MTC's automation, data management, and analytics framework with new capabilities.
  • Work with Product Development team on automation system enhancements needed to support the introduction of new manufacturing processes/products.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with no relevant experience.

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)

  • C/C++, Perl, Python, ASP.NET, JavaScript, Shell scripting
  • Linux OS experience
  • SQL programming experience including ability to write queries, Stored Procedures and ETL for Oracle and MS SQL databases
  • Familiarity of LIMS platforms such as LabWare.
  • Familiarity with Yield and Parametric data analytics tools such as JMP, Spotfire, R programming, or Matlab.
  • MS Visual Studio programming experiences (C#)
  • Web services programming experience (WCF, Rest, gRPC)
  • Experience with equipment interfaces such as SECS/GEM protocols and GPIB.
  • Working knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) software systems such as Camline SPACE
  • Working knowledge of MES (FACTORYworks) or other MES systems
  • Experience working in an FDA regulated industry such as Medical Device or Pharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • Experience with software source code repository tool (ex. Git, Subversion, TFS, DevOps)
  • Six Sigma certification

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD): $98,400.00 - $147,600.00 This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits).
