Under general supervision the Junior Category Merchant manages the daily operational tasks supporting a product category or categories. Will assist in the development and tracking of category KPI's to drive specific category targets, supporting the overall business objectives. Daily activities include marketing products, developing product line strategies and reporting financial results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the supporting team executes the strategy for assigned product category; collaborates with analytics teams to ensure data supports strategy and decision making.
  • Oversees and ensures cost negotiation execution of products to assigned category / categories.
  • Oversees the execution of product strategy for assigned merchandise category / categories.
  • In collaboration with suppliers, assists and provide analysis on promotional support for products and category for assigned category / categories.
  • Coaches and guides team members.
  • May serve as a key contributor on various key projects within a business function.
  • Stays current on the latest industry technologies, trends and strategies.
  • Completes work in a timely and accurate manner while providing exceptional customer service.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • This position requires a minimum three years buying, account management, product management, financial analysis and/or marketing or related experience with progressive complexity and responsibility.
  • Some experience in merchandising execution, visual presentation, new concepts, inventory management, channel management, and supplier management is beneficial.
  • Corporate retail experience is strongly preferred (exposure to both a brick and mortar and/or online retail environment); with an emphasis on Tire industry experience preferred.
  • Some understanding of relevant products to make purchasing decisions is required.
  • Some experience with managing regional and national marketing and/or category programs is preferred.
  • Ability to manage large scale projects in a complex environment is required.
  • Experience in SAP & MicroStrategy, is preferred. Understanding of internal and environmental sales drivers is required.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, multi-task, and manage multiple projects to meet various deadlines simultaneously is required.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a highly cross-functional environment is required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office, including skills with Word and Excel are necessary.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze and disseminate information with attention to detail and accuracy is required.
  • Basic presentation skills required, including demonstrated ability to communicate across all levels of the organization, present complex ideas concisely and clearly articulate ideas verbally and in writing is necessary.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong supplier relationships.
  • Collaboration, facilitation and negotiation skills are required.
  • Business acumen knowledge and understanding of business, purchasing and merchandising issues, priorities, goals and strategy is preferred.
  • Ability to provide innovative ideas/ solutions is essential.
  • This position requires excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Customer service skills including the ability to manage and respond to different customer situations while maintaining a positive and friendly attitude is essential.
  • Maintaining confidentiality, treating others with respect and upholding Company values is key.

Educational Requirements:

This position requires a Bachelor degree in supply chain, procurement, marketing or a related, or equivalent work experience.

Work Days:

Normal work days are Monday through Friday. Occasional Saturdays and Sundays may be necessary.

Work Hours:

Normal work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours may be necessary.
