The Opportunity

We are seeking a Safety Manager responsible for overseeing all aspects of safety to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations. This role provides technical support, implements safety procedures, and collaborates with the operations team to maintain workplace safety and regulatory compliance. The Safety Manager will play a key role in driving safety excellence, reducing accidents, and ensuring adherence to FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT regulations in our fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Strategic Safety Partnership: Build and maintain a trusted partnership with the Operations team to support both tactical and strategic safety initiatives aimed at reducing accidents and improving safety culture.
  • Training Oversight: Ensure all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) training requirements are met, including onboarding safety training for new hires and ongoing training for all associates, both hourly and management.
  • KPI Establishment: Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for Operations to align safety goals and initiatives across the terminals.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Oversee DOT compliance for all drivers, ensuring adherence to both federal and company safety regulations.
  • Safety Procedures Management: Develop, update, and maintain written safety and health procedures to comply with company policies and state and federal regulations.
  • OSHA Compliance: Serve as the subject matter expert on OSHA compliance, acting as the primary point of contact for all safety-related issues.
  • Incident Investigation: Lead and facilitate incident investigations, ensuring complete and accurate documentation and reporting.
  • Compliance Audits: Conduct audits to ensure practices and records, including OSHA documentation, meet all government and company standards.
  • Process Reviews: Participate in new process evaluations, including job hazard analysis, and deliver necessary training for new processes.
  • Risk Assessments: Conduct risk assessments to minimize hazards, reduce losses, and address environmental concerns.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze safety and health data, develop metrics, and generate reports to inform leadership on safety performance and improvements.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Skills & Attributes

  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and other relevant safety regulations.
  • Analytical Skills: Proficient in data analysis for safety metrics and KPIs, with experience in identifying trends to reduce incidents.
  • Effective Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey safety procedures and expectations.
  • Problem-Solving: Skilled in conducting risk assessments, hazard analyses, and proactive problem-solving to minimize risks.
  • Adaptability: Able to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adjust strategies based on changing regulations and operational needs.
  • Organizational Skills: Manages multiple projects and safety programs, ensuring timely completion and compliance.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Sciences, Business, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience managing safety programs, including DOT compliance, in an industrial or transportation environment.
  • Industry Knowledge: Prior experience in the supply chain, particularly within the LTL transportation sector, is a plus.
  • Metrics and Reporting: Proficient in tracking and reporting safety metrics, including leading and lagging indicators.
  • Travel: Ability to travel to other offices and service centers as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Frequent walking throughout the facility and between departments as part of daily operational tasks.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 20-25 pounds.
  • Ability to navigate each department and the company's facilities as needed.
