Position Description
The Catering Manager provides leadership, technical expertise, and day-to-day operational management for UMOM's Helpings Café Catering Program, a mission-driven business offering handcrafted menu items and job training opportunities. This hands-on leadership role ensures exceptional catering services, mentors staff and program participants, and maintains high standards of quality, safety, and customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and present catering menu proposals using catering software for review and approval.
- Coordinate production and execution of catering orders and events, ensuring timely service.
- Manage inventory and procurement of supplies and equipment.
- Oversee all aspects of event execution including food prep, setup, delivery, service, and breakdown.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment in compliance with health codes.
- Supervise, coach, and develop catering staff, ensuring high performance and adherence to standards.
- Provide training and mentorship to students in the Homegrown Program.
- Deliver outstanding customer service and build strong client relationships.
- Complete administrative tasks including reporting, budget tracking, and staff scheduling.
- Ensure compliance with budget and organizational policies.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Competencies
- High school diploma or GED required; culinary certification preferred.
- Minimum five years of experience as a Chef in a fast-paced environment; full-service catering experience preferred.
- Experience in hospitality management, procurement, and budgeting preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook; ability to operate POS systems and online supply platforms.
- ServSafe Manager Certification or ability to obtain.
- Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card or ability to obtain.
- Ability to pass background checks and drug screening.
- Valid AZ Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
Physical Activities and Working Conditions
This position is very active, requiring standing, moving, bending, lifting at least 50 pounds, and working in kitchen conditions including heat, cold, humidity, and loud noises.

Work Schedule
