Job Overview

The Design and Construction Project Specialist supports the design and construction processes for new franchise locations. This role assists with various tasks related to the project life cycle, such as conducting research and analysis to identify the project scope, objectives, and requirements; preparing and updating project documents; communicating and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders; tracking and reporting on the project progress, providing administrative and logistical support. Performance, and issues; ensuring the project quality, compliance, according to Brand standards and goals. The specialist will work closely with franchisees, contractors, architects, and internal teams to facilitate smooth project execution.

Key Responsibilities

Project Support:

  • Assist in developing project plans, timelines, and budgets.
  • Coordinate with franchisees to gather requirements and ensure alignment with Brand standards.
  • Track project progress and provide updates as requested.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and be adaptable to change.


Design Assistance:
  • Ability to read and comprehend plans and specifications to support architects and designers in developing test fits, store layouts and design concepts.
  • Review design documents and plans for compliance with Brand standards and local regulations.
  • Assist in organizing design review meetings with franchisees and internal stakeholders.

Construction Coordination:

  • Help manage the bidding process for selecting contractors and vendors.
  • Support on-site construction activities to ensure adherence to plans and specifications.
  • Coordinate and schedule site visits to monitor progress and assist in resolving issues.
  • Assist the project team with closeout of the project.


Budget Assistance:
  • Prepare job cost reports, status reports and ensuring all costs are tracked.
  • Identify and report cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.


Quality Control:
  • Ensure all projects meet company standards and regulatory requirements with a constant eye on quality.
  • Assist in inspections and coordinate with franchisees for project handover.
  • Help address post-construction issues and ensure satisfactory resolution.

Communication and Documentation:
  • Provide regular updates to the Design and Construction Manager and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain detailed project documentation, including plans, contracts, and progress reports.
  • Serve as a point of contact for franchisees throughout the design and construction process.


Requirements

  • Trade School Certification, Associates, or bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in project support, preferably in retail or franchise construction.
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of construction methods and technologies, ability to interpret technical drawings and contracts
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Ability to travel as required to support projects at various locations.
  • Every Dogtopia employee, including anyone who must visit the Support Office or other Dogtopia work locations, attend in-person meetings with Dogtopia employees, franchisees, vendors, and/or other external partners, and/or travel as part of their job duties, must provide proof of vaccination.
