The Materials Testing Technician Senior performs a wide array of important quality assurance testing on transportation project materials. You will work mainly in the laboratory and occasionally out in the field. In this role, you will conduct materials testing, inspections, research, and investigations of construction materials, all while applying methodologies commonly accepted in roadway and bridge construction and maintenance and ensuring compliance with established standards, specifications, and provisions. Being an integral member of a team and making a positive impact on our community are just two additional and rewarding aspects of this position. The position involves delegating duties within the lab and assisting the supervisor in providing training to lab technicians.

We Require
Two years of experience in field survey, computer-aided drafting, engineering design, land surveying, or related engineering technician duties
Associate's degree or two years of college course work in engineering, engineering technology, technical computer-assisted drafting, land surveying, or another related field relevant to the area of assignment
A combination of post-secondary education and/orjob-related experience may substitute for theminimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
Must obtain certifications for ATTI Soil and Aggregate and ATTI Asphalt within six months of hire
Must obtain ACI Field certification, Nuclear Gauge, and Radiation Safety certification within six months of hire
Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire and have an acceptable driving record
Job Contributions
Perform laboratory testing of all construction materials utilized in the construction of assigned projects
Perform field sampling and testing to ensure the adequacy of construction materials and methods
Participate in all assigned proficiency sample testing and on-site certification inspections performed by other national certifying agencies
Complete and report test results of assigned special research projects in accordance with instructions specified by the requester or the laboratory supervisor
Prepare and submit testing reports and summaries for review
Perform maintenance and calibrate/verify the status of laboratory testing equipment
Provide and participate in the training of lab technicians
Assign work duties in the absence of the lab supervisor
Working Conditions
Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly
The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: Fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation
Machines, tools, equipment, software, and hardware
Light truck, coring rig, soil, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt testing machines, heating and burn-off ovens, regular small tools such as plyers, screwdrivers, cutting tools, diamond saw, etc. Software includes MS Office, Workday, temperature logging app, software, and computer to control testing machines. Hardware includes computer and monitor
Protective equipment required
All MCDOT employees are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) if visiting or working in the field. PPE will be issued by MCDOT once employed
