About the Location

About the Job

The Director of Enterprise Architecture (EA) we are seeking is a visionary thinker grounded with broad, hands-on experience. This role will be responsible for managing the legacy PetSmart enterprise architecture as well as leading the evolutionary architecture response to disruptive forces in the industry. This role will be responsible for enabling the long-term business strategies by identifying and analyzing the execution of change toward the desired business vision and targeted objectives. A key part of this role is leading the activities for creation and management of the architectural roadmaps, creating actionable recommendations to business leaders, and providing oversight and guidance to the organization.

  • Build and drive the practice of enterprise architecture across the Technology department: Align the long-term technology vision with business objectives to overcome legacy constraints and unlock new business capabilities. Create enterprise architecture artifacts which will enable Technology initiatives for all functional areas, driving an improvement in outcomes for large scale initiatives and championing the practice of enterprise architecture across Technology.
  • Drive the practice of solutions architecture across the Technology team: Dotted line responsibility for leadership of the Solutions Architects to drive consistency and align objectives and strategies across key Technology initiatives. Acts as a mentor for architects across the business.
  • Lead the implementation of enterprise architecture deliverables with external partners and 3rd party system integrators: Oversee EA deliverables and artifacts created by 3rd Party System Integrators and Implementation Partners.
  • Influence across the organization (at the peer level, C-Suite level and subordinate level) to implement new and improved processes, improve existing architectural processes, and act as the highest level SME for architecture across the department.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years retail experience navigating large corporate technology landscapes.
  • Proven experience building and managing development teams that design and deliver large high availability systems.
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills; ability to decompose complex problems, prioritize issues, and implement sensible solutions.
  • Experience leading the development of technology solutions throughout the full product lifecycle.
  • Demonstrates proven leadership of large end-user projects and programs.
  • Proven decision-making and prioritization skills.
  • Effective leadership skills and ability to influence.
  • Keen organization and project management skills.
  • Passionate about quality, performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Motivated, dynamic, strategic and results-oriented.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills - demonstrated ability to influence technical and non-technical audiences including those at the senior leadership levels.
  • Collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams and business partners.
  • Proven experience collaborating with C-Level, SVP, EVP, VP and Director level associates.
  • Demonstrates exceptional relationship building skills with ability to influence others.
  • Proven history of working closely with business partners to successfully drive overall company objectives.
